Talk to your kids about being green.

Ed and I just finished laying down our podcast #16.

You can get it on Thanksgiving, this Thursday for people in USA, everyday for my oldest brother…yeah, cuz he’s a turkey.

Anyway, at the end of our podcasts, we always give a Green Tip, something easy and feasible you can do today.

Check out the last one here

These are usually things like, turn off the lights… don’t run the water unless you’re using it… use compact florescent lights (CFL’s).. etc.

(If you can’t find it, Green Tips are at the bottom of the show notes, at the end of the show.)

Today’s Green Tip was — talk to your kids about being green.

You know, sex, drugs, money, ethnic diversity, global economics, and being green — all taboo topics parents should be able to talk with their kids about.

If they don’t hear it from you, they’ll hear it from someone else, and it won’t be pretty or accurate.

We also injected the audio from the Ford Hybrid SUV commercial, the one with dad and daughter, dad taking daughter to the movie theater in his hybrid SUV. The gist of the commercial is the difference between the way dad and daughter seem to think about hybrids. Apparently, they haven’t talked about the car, the fact that it’s a hybrid, or even about her friends until now. At the end, the daughter asks the dad why he hasn’t ever mentioned that they had a hybrid. He says “I didn’t think I needed to talk about it.”

How sad.

Like when your son or daughter has to default on their house mortgage because of bad finance planning. Teach your kids about money. Teach them to save and invest. Teach them it’s not normal, or good to have 3 credit cards maxed out.

Nothing could mean more to your kids and your kid’s generation than how we treat ourselves, our neighbors, and our planet.

Should your kids learn how to act from people who drive 0 MPG Hummers?

Driving a HUMMER doesn’t make sense, but it’s the only message they’re going to hear if you don’t talk to them about being green, what does it mean, why would they do it, and why is it maybe not normal now, but definitely the good thing to do.

Do you talk to your kids about being green?
